Homer’s illustrious language may bring scenes from his epic poem, “The Odyssey,” to life, but looking at art inspired by the story is still a fun extra.
Candlewick Press’ new retelling of “The Odyssey” was written in a simple style by Gillian Cross, and features images of Odysseus battling a fierce cyclops and fending off lustful sirens.
Illustrator Neil Packer designed this version with his signature style, both ornate and two-dimensional. (He also illustrated Umberto Eco’s “The Name of the Rose” and a specially adorned version of “The Origin of Species”.)
